Adventurides - This Week

Hello Adventuriders!

This Week - Somerville - Sterling - West Acton

The weather this week is going to be spectacular. Tomorrow, the relative humidity is forecasted to be 41%….like Arizona.

We'll start off with our traditional ride (note the starting time of 10:00) to Somerville from Bedford and have lunch at Dave's Fresh Pasta (or BYO), However, I've planned two excursions, one optional - 15 minutes of short hills in the middle of Lexington, and the other a re-visit of the Davenport St (near Porter Square) outdoor mural which is now complete:

The starting point is the Bedford end of the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway. Set your GPS to 84 Loomis St in Bedford. At the lights on Great Rd (4 & 225) take a right on South Rd. Then at the first set of lights, left onto Loomis. Park at the depot.

PS  Does anyone use the starting point and route maps?  I'm finding that sometimes I have to use a right click on the mouse to use the link.  If no one uses them, I will eliminate them and use GPS locations or give instructions...

Westford Ho

It's a GO for today's rides in Westford.

My cell # is 781-248-2624.

REMINDER - RIDES TOMORROW

Tomorrow's forecast calls for partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies, with temperatures going from the high 70s in the morning to the high 80s in the afternoon.

I will bring waiver forms in case you don't have one.  Please bring $15 in cash or make a check out to Jane Anderson. Please come a few minutes early for waiver and fee processing.

Season 26! Friday's Rides

Greetings Fellow  AdventuRiders!

Our 26th season will start on Friday, September 9th. Yes, that's this Friday.

I hope you have all had a wonderful summertime. Now, with the kids back in school, it's time to get serious about having some fun on our bikes!

I am writing this while waiting for Hermine to land in Truro, but we've had no rain and lots of wind, but nothing too bad so far. Current forecasts call for summer to return by Friday which may be a very warm day. So I have changed venues - from Carlisle to Westford so we can be near some ponds.

This year's sign up is much simpler. Your signed waiver will serve as a registration form. So bring it with you along with $15 (checks can be made out to Jane Anderson) and off we go.

Many thanks to Alex, Dena and Vicky, Joel and Darlene for signing up to lead some rides!!

Safety and Readiness:

  • Check out your bike NOW. Please make sure your tires are full, your chain is lubed, and you have a spare tube.
  • If your helmet is older than 5 years, consider getting a new one as they do wear out.
  • Bring plenty of water!

Ride Leader Sign Up and Info on Fearless Leader's Choice Rides

Hard to believe but there are only about 15 days until we have our first ride!

Remember the google sheets that Carole developed last year?  Well here they are again:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jTZS739Y-NR3330w0-yykO_CmBxbSOM1FIW8-JTKvLI/edit#gid=1207170000

There are four worksheets now: 1. a list of routes (at the bottom are the names of new ones done last season); 2. last season's calendar/rides and leader sign up; 3. A blank calendar for this season for leader sign up; 4 a list of Fearless Leader Choice Rides...the first few are from the last three years and the remainder are from previous years.

1.  If you would like to help Jane and me by leading a ride(s) this season, please sign up on the 3rd worksheet...choose  ride(s) from the first worksheet. (Remember: FLC rides are now on Mondays and Wed. is R/F and Friday is F/R.)

2. Please help us decide which Fearless Leader Choice rides to do.  Look at the 4th worksheet and rate the rides. Bill has started with the BS column. Add a column with your initials and rate the rides. Feel free to suggest areas for new rides. We'll try to invent them or modify existing RideWithGPS rides. Darlene is working on 2 such rides.

3. The Waiver:  a few people have printed the waiver, filled it out, scanned it and emailed it to us.  Feel free to do the same if you enjoy techie stuff.

Hope to see you soon,

Jane and Bill

AdventuRides Update

Dear AdventuRiders,

As you know,  I am stepping aside as your Fearless Leader.  It has been great fun to exercise and explore with you over the last 13 years!  I am happy to report that AdventuRides will continue with two new leaders this fall: Bill Segal (bill.segal@comcast.net) and Jane Anderson (janeanderson1960@comcast.net)  Both Bill and Jane are experienced AdventuRides riders and leaders.  They might reach out to you as they decide the future format  of our group.
AdventuRides will NOT be listed in the recreation department listings this fall. You will be contacted by email with the details of our fall season as they become available.  I think you will be pleased with the changes under discussion.  We all clearly want your input and feedback.  Feel free to contact Bill and Jane directly if you wish.

Enjoy the summer- and I look forward to seeing you all in the fall.

Carole
