Get Ready for AdventuRides Spring 2012

Dear AdventuRiders,

I hope you all had a good "winter" and didn't get fat like I did from lack of snow sports :-)

AdventuRides Spring 2012 season begins on Monday April 2nd. Our first ride of the season will start in Groton Center this season instead of East Pepperell as we usually do. Stay tuned for more information.

The schedule will be the same as last season with a morning and afternoon Recreation Ride on Mondays, an (unofficial) Exploration Ride on Wedneday and a Fitness Ride on Friday.

So this is a good time to look over your bike and get it tuned up if necessary, and be sure the tires are in good condition and INFLATED PROPERLY.

You can also register at the following Recreation Departments:
NOTE: First time riders can try us out and their first ride is FREE.

Acton Recreation - page 41.

We also need everyone to initial and sign a copy of our Waiver of Liability. You can print it out here, or I will have copies with me.

Hope to see you there,
Bill and Carole

Another Preseason Ride (from Groton Center)

Dear AdventuRiders,

How about another ride from Groton Center to "Somewhere Else - Else" and back tomorrow morning (Friday 03/23). Anyone want to join me? One thought is to go to Shirley Center and see what is blooming at Holdenwood, since its not Winter anymore.

I'm thinking 15-20 miles at a "beginning of the season" pace and perhaps lunch at Filho's or Main Street Cafe.

Let's meet at the Groton Center Rail Trail Parking at 9:30 AM, and remember the Groton Precision Parking Police will be watching :-)

Re: Ride Tomorrow? + "The End" Ski Video

Due to popular demand, let's start the ride at 10:00 AM.

For my enjoyment anyhow, I shot some helmet cam video at Wachusett Mountain on Sunday for probably my last run of the season :-(

Registration Information for Upcoming Bike Rides

Dear AdventuRiders,

Although it may look less Spring-like now than it has all Winter, here are some upcoming bike rides that you may be interested in.

First up is the Bike MS Rhode Island which is a fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. They have two events scheduled. First is the MS 25 Quick Ride on April, 15th. The second is the Bike MS: Ride the Rhode on June 16-17. It is a 150 mile ride From Newport, RI across the two suspension bridges (where bikes are usually not allowed) to Wheaton College for an overnight before returning to Newport. Thanks Bobbi, for bringing this to my attention.

Next up is The Flattest Century in the East on September 9th. It is a ride in Southeastern Massachusetts put on by the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen. Registration opens May 1st and it sells out quickly.

If you are looking for a longer adventure, you may want to check out the Rail-to-Trails Greenway Sojourn on June 17-24. This ride goes along the C&O Canal Towpath and Great Allegheny Passage from Washington, D.C., to Pittsburgh, Pa.

If you are looking for some international adventure, check out the Montreal Bike Fest on May 27th - June 3rd.

If you haven't registered for the Bike New York - Five Borough Bike Tour on May 6th yet, its not too late if you want to register as a VIP or join a charity group.

And of course, AdventuRides' 17th season starts on April 2nd.

Enjoy the snow while you can!
Bill
