GO - Groton Center

SummeRides - Groton Center - Wednesday

Dear AdventuRiders,

The weather tomorrow is looking like the pick of the week. It should be SUNNY, about 70 degrees with a NW wind and low humidity when we leave. It should be upper 70s when we get back.

Lunch at Filho's or Main Street Cafe.

On Wednesday, July 25th - Groton Center

We will meet in Groton Center at the Nashua River Rail Trail parking lot. Here is the starting point map.
  • The route will take us down Martin's Pond Road to Baddacook Pond, over to Massapoag Pond, and down to Keyes Pond. From there we will ride to Tyngsboroand UP to a beautiful view in Dunstable.
  • Then we cruise the backroads to Sand Hill Road and catch the rail trail back to the Center. The route is about 27 1/2 miles with about 550 feet vertical (moderate). Here is a route map. There is a bit of dirt / gravel but I'm planning to bring my road bike.
  • AR Index - Roughly equal to 31 smooth, flat, miles.

Here is the schedule:
  • At 9:30 AM - The SummeRide will leave.
  • At 12:30 PM - We should be back.

Hope to see you there,
Bill and Carole

GO - Harvard Track

SummeRides - Harvard - Friday

Dear AdventuRiders,

Well, I'm officially bored with starting at Groton Center for awhile. There's been no excitement with the Precision Parking Police or anything!

The weather tomorrow is supposed to be Mostly Cloudy or Mostly Sunny depending on which weatherman you believe. They do agree that it will be upper 60s when we leave and mid 70s when we get back with very low humidity and light winds. So, how 'bout we start at the Harvard Track and do the "Roller Coaster" ride around the Harvard hills and a loop around Bare Hill Pond. There is one category 5 hill along the way but its not very steep, just 2 miles long.

On Friday, July 20th - Harvard Track
  • 9:30 AM - We will leave for Oak Hill.
  • 12:30 PM - We should be back.
  • Starting Point Map - Harvard Track.
  • Route Map - Harvard - Hills - Pond.
  • Distance - 22 Miles.
  • Elevation Gain - 670 feet - mostly on Oak Hill.
  • Unpaved - None.
  • Equipment - I plan to bring my road bike.
AR Index - Roughly equal to 29 flat, smooth miles.

Hope to see you there,
Bill (and maybe Carole)

On Friday, July 13th - West Groton
  • 9:30 AM - we will leave Cutler Field (portapotty equipped).
  • 12:30 PM - we should be back, unless we have too much fun.
  • Starting Point - Cutler Field, West Groton.
  • Route Map - West Groton - Swimming Holes.
  • Distance - 19 miles.
  • Elevation Gain - 500 feet (moderate, but one big hill).
  • Unpaved - 2 miles.
  • Equipment - I plan to bring my road bike.
AR Index - Roughly equal to 24 flat, smooth miles.

Hope to see you there,

GO - Groton Center

SummeRides - Groton Center on Monday

Dear AdventuRiders,

Since I only had one companion on last Tuesday's ride, I'm going to do the ride again tomorrow. The route is nice and leafy with only a few moderate hills. The weather looks really nice tomorrow for a morning bike ride. The forecast calls for SUNNY, low 70s when we leave and high 70s when we return with very low humidity.

Synopsis: Blah, blah, blah, Filho's (although we went to Main Street Cafe last week).

Details: This ride will take us DOWN the hill to West Groton and then along the other side of the Squannacook River to Townsend Harbor. From there we mostly ride AROUND Oak Hill to East Pepperell where will probably take Nashua Road back to Groton rather than the Rail Trail. I wonder how many more rides I can figure out from Groton Center?

On Monday, July 9th - Groton Center
  • 9:30 AM - We will leave for West Groton.
  • 12:30 PM - We should be back.
  • LUNCH at Filho's?
  • Starting Point - Groton Center.

  • Unpaved - none.
  • Equipment - I plan to bring my road bike.
AR Index - Roughly equal to 29 flat, smooth miles.
