Thank You AdventuRiders!!!

Dear AdventuRiders,

Well, the 23rd season of AdventuRiders is behind us now.

Seriously, we couldn't do it without you!  Everyone contributes in their own way and the net result is FANTASTIC!

The ride to Portsmouth was the perfect end to a season that started off with 2 feet of snow still on the ground.

So I've been posting some pictures to www.facebook.com/Adventurides. Please join in and post some of your favorite pictures too.

So, the final numbers are in:
  • Number of rides - 36
  • Number of miles - 660
  • Number of moving hours - 60
  • Number of calories (for me anyhow) - 24,000
See you in the Fall,
Bill and Carole

STOP - All Monday Rides Are Cancelled

Last Week of the Season - Carlisle - Portsmouth - The End :-(

Dear AdventuRiders,

We were working on End Of Season Party Plans for Monday until we noticed the 100% chance of rain and a high of 58 degrees. So I just did a copy and paste of the recent Carlisle rides since they keep getting rained out anyway. Maybe the weatherman will be wrong ...

Then I started thinking about Wednesday. We've already been to Portsmouth this season, but can you really get too much of a great ride? How does 74 degrees and Sunny sound? Its not even supposed to be windy.

Its always festive at the Portsmouth Brewery, so I guess we can call that the EOS Party. Then I can take off to Bar Harbor and save an hours drive (if I get my act together in time).

Dear AdventuRiders,

We were freezing last Wednesday on the North Shore and now its going to be HOT. Actually its going to be a "dry heat" with relatively low humidity.

So I have planned two rides that will be mostly shady and with potential wet stops.

The morning fitness ride will stop at KTR Motorsports (if I hear back from them), the Storybook House, Shirley Center, West Groton, and Fitch Bridge.

The afternoon recreation ride will be really lazy and use the Fitch Bridge to get to the other side of the river on our was to East Pepperell Center. If necessary :-) we can jump into the  Nissitissit River and then check out the covered bridge and the Prudence Wright memorial. Then we can cruise the NRRT back to Groton.

2:30 PM - We are scheduled to be back.

Reminder - Lake Potanipo, Brookline, NH on Wednesday

Dear AdventuRiders,

Neither Severe Thunderstorm Warning, nor New Hampshire mud, nor being late for dinner, stays the Fearless Leader from the swift completion of his appointed rounds...

Anyhow, (dirt) Federal Hill Road is very rough and they might dig it up tomorrow. (dirt) Rocky Pond Road isn't great, but they seem to be finished. So we are going to get to the ghost town of Monson Center the old fashioned, way by walking / riding through the woods for about 1/2 mile. You may want to bring bug repellent

After that, "its all downhill" (trust me :-) to the GREAT VIEWS, pony(?), and the goats. We will cross a 100+ year old pedestrian suspension bridge in Milford and on the way back, and we can stop at the Lull Farm Store (Live Free and Farm) too.

Lunch is at Chrysanthi's Restaurant at the 20 mile mark. You can stay for lunch or its a 2 1/2 mile straight shot down Route 13 to the starting point.

Reminder - Brookline or Hollis NH Tomorrow

Dear AdventuRiders,

The weather looks terrific tomorrow, but the roads I was planning to use are being "resurfaced" which is NH-speak for plowing them up and waiting for traffic to pack them back down. Not good for biking. So I am looking for an alternate paved route that isn't too steep or traffic-y.

So, we will either start at Lake Potanipo in Brookline, NH or in Hollis, NH.

Stay tuned for all the details later on this evening.

Oh, we will leave at 9:30 AM and the ride will be 25 miles or so and hilly.

Bill

Dear AdventuRiders,

Tomorrow's weather should be a cross between Wednesday's clouds and Thursday's warmer temperature. Not perfect, but no one will go hypothermic :-) Both rides are fairly standard and we will use bits of the ARRT, but the real highlight of the day is lunch at the Rail Trail Flatbread Company.

The Morning Fitness Ride will go through Bolton to Berlin and stop at the old (renovated) church in Berlin. We might even get some coffee or something since I am a contributor.

I haven't figured out the Afternoon Recreation Ride yet, but I plan to take the Assebet River Rail Trail to Stow and go "BOOOOOOO" when we pass Honey Pot Orchards since they are blocking completion of the Rail Trail.
