Dear AdventuRiders,
NOTE: I can't do a Wednesday ride this week, but its supposed to rain anyway. The Exploration Ride will go to Portsmouth on THURSDAY.
Well, despite the beautiful weather we had this weekend, Monday isn't looking so good :-( The forecast calls for low 60s and a 50% chance of rain in the morning and around 70 degrees and a 50% chance of rain in the afternoon. Hopefully, the weatherman is wrong!
The morning ride will feature a trip to Massapoag Pond and after a noticeable hill we will cruise down to Keyes Pond on the way back.
The afternoon ride will also pass Keyes Pond on the way to Nabnassett Pond and we will return by way of Burges's Pond in the old East Boston Camps.
On Monday, May 14th - Westford, Forge Pond Beach
- At 9:30 AM the Morning Recreation Ride will leave.
- We will return by 11:30 AM.
- Starting Point Map - Forge Pond Beach, Westford.
- Route Map - Forge Pond - Massapoag Pond.
- Distance = 14 miles
- Elevation Gain = 300 feet (medium)
- Unpaved = 2 miles - probably a bit of sand.
- Equipment - Any well maintained bike will work.
AR Index = Roughly 18 flat, paved miles.
- At 11:30 AM, we will have lunch at Pizzeria Presti. If the mosquitos aren't too bad we'll have a picnic, otherwise we will eat at the restaurant.
- At 12:30 PM the Afternoon Recreation Ride will leave.
- We will return by 2:30 PM.
- Starting Point Map - Forge Pond Beach, Westford.
- Route Map - Forge Pond - Nabnasset Pond
- Distance = 15 miles
- Elevation Gain = 250 feet (easy)
- Unpaved = 1 1/2 miles
- Equipment - Any well maintained bike will work.
AR Index = Roughly 17 flat, paved miles.
On THURSDAY, May 17th - Portsmouth
- We can meet at Shaw's in Groton to carpool at 8:45 AM. Here is a map.
- The Exploration Ride will leave Hampton North Beach at 10:00 AM. Here is a map.
- We will return to Hampton North Beach by 2:30 PM.
- Starting Point - Hampton North Beach (not to be confused with North Hampton Beach!).
- Route Map - Hampton North Beach to Portsmouth
- Distance = 31 miles.
- Elevation Gain = 310 feet (basically flat).
- Unpaved = none.
- Equipment - I plan to bring my real road bike.
AR Index = Roughly equal to 31 flat, smooth miles.
On Friday, May 18th - Lunenburg
- The Fitness Ride will leave at 9:30 AM.
- We should be back by 12:30 PM.
- Starting Point Map - Lunenburg Center.
- Route Map - Lunenburg to Flat Hill and Pearl Hill State Park.
- Distance = 26 1/2 miles.
- Elevation Gain = 750 feet (more difficult).
- Unpaved = none.
- Equipment = Any sturdy, well maintained bike will work.
AR Index = Roughly 34 flat, paved miles.
