Rides this week

Jane and I are planning two rides in Acton tomorrow with parking at the Elm St playground and lunch at Idylwilde Farms close by. But we're watching the forecast for possible thunderstorms.

On Friday, we have the Newburyport ride scheduled, led by Darlene's friend MJ.  Last year we parked in her neighborhood.  However, she'd like a count of cars ahead of time.

If you are planning to ride Friday, please let me know.

Thanks,

Bill (& Jane)

STOP no Friday ride

Bill and I will plan West Acton rides for Wednesday May 31st.
Newburyport is scheduled for Friday June 2nd.
Hoping for better biking weather next week, Jane

GO - Bolton

The rain will pass us by to the south and dissipate.

Memorial Park is on the left on Wattaquadock Hill Rd just after you pass Manor Rd on the right.

The address is about 65 Wattaquadock Hill Rd but hard to tell exactly.

Temps are low 60s at 9:30 for the am start and mid-60s for the 12:30 start.

Bring your lunch.

Bill

Tomorrow's Rides

Too raw out!

Stay tuned.

Bill

This week

The forecast is not good for Monday, Wednesday or Friday this week.

Tomorrow morning there is a 35% chance of rain but increasing as the day goes on. And it will be cool.

Tuesday looks ok. I could do a ride Tuesday afternoon. Is anyone interested?

Friday, May 19 - PORTSMOUTH!!  -   The long range forecast is calling for Sunny and a high of 70.

This ride will depart at 10am from the North Beach, Hampton, NH parking lot at the intersection of Route 27 (High St) and route 1A.
Carpooling is a possibility.

The ride is 31.6 miles long and virtually flat. It is a beautiful ride along the New Hampshire coast, in and out of harbors and parks.
We do 19 miles in the morning and usually eat at The Portsmouth Brewery. And then we take a more inland route of 12 miles back to
the parking area. We'll be back by 3:00pm.

This ride is a treat!!  Plan on it!

Here's my call to join us (from last year):

If you're on the fence and cannot budge
I'm here to give you a little nudge

Forget the household chores and all the litter
and leave the kids with the trusted sitter

If you've got other plans, forget the notion
Grab your tights and get the lotion

This ride is really remarkable
The lot at the beach is very parkable

Yes, it's a bit of a downer but don't be sour
The NH rangers charge two dollars an hour

We'll see the huge estates in the town of Rye
Even though global warming banks are piled high

We follow the coastline for 16 miles
Guaranteed there'll be many smiles

We stop at some seaside parks of local fame
And take our picture at a big picture frame:

The Memorial Bridge takes us to Kittery
It's brand new and you won't get jittery
You'll be able to boast there was no pain
When you rode all the way to Maine
Then on to the Brewery where the food and drinks are a delight
If you try to take away my mussels, you'll surely get a fight

The return trip is more inland and easy to attack
Since Friday the wind will be at our back
All in all it's a fabulous ride
I'm hoping you'll be by my(our) side.

Mistake in tomorrow's pm ride

I put the wrong URL in for the afternoon ride.  It should have been this instead.  Besides, it's Heart Pond, not Hart Pond because the pond is shaped like a heart.

This ride is 18.1 miles long and has an elevation of 752' or 41.5'/mile

Friday, May 12 -

This ride is 24.7 miles and has an elevation of 1454' or 59'/mile
   Return at 12:30.

Lunch at Angler's Fish Market and Chowder

Note:  I have added a new metric:  feet of elevation/mile.  This shows that there really isn't that much difference between these recreation and fitness rides.  The Friday ride is obviously longer than our usual rides and does have more elevation.  I wish that more of you would try this ride as it is really quite nice. We can take a more leisurely pace if folks would like….And the restaurant is nice too.

Important Note re: Adventurides June Schedule
Bill and Jane will not be available to lead rides beyond June 5. Bill will lead the Fearless Leader's Choice ride in Newburyport (along with Darlene's friend MJ) planned for June 2nd.   Bill's last ride of the season will be Monday June 5th. We encourage you to signup to lead a ride on the leader calendar, so that Adventurides can keep going until the end of the school year as usual.  Once you have chosen a ride and a date, please let Jane know, so that she can set up your googlegroup email account to send out  the ride information.

Happy riding!

Bill and Jane

Rides and Weather

The forecast for tomorrow calls for rain and cool temps. So no ride is planned.

For next Monday, Wednesday and Friday, they are calling for half days of rain.

We'll send out an e-mail Sunday evening with a ride plan for Monday if it looks ok.

Have a good weekend all.

Bill & Jane

Today's Rides

Please read this e-mail carefully.

The weather today will be fine and the rides are on (GO)  BUT there is an issue:

Richard Lawrence (NVP) kindly let me know that there is a 3-day filming process going on in Hudson.  Today is the 3rd day and Main Street may be blocked off.
Worst of all, the Microcreamery (& Flatbread…we could eat at Horseshoe) may be inaccessible!

So if you're driving in on route 62 or 85, take Washington street, not Main St. off the rotary and go left on South St.

If you're driving in from Sudbury and Stow, take a left onto Vila Da Porto off of Main St.  It becomes South St.

And here is the map of downtown:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12893444

Also, there will be a nice westerly wind so the air will feel 2-3 degrees cooler than the forecasted 55 - 58.

Bill

You Must Ride tomorrow!

The forecast for tomorrow is good, though a little on the cool side. However, the forecast for the next 4 riding days is not good…a lot of rain coming our way.

So, if you want biking and camaraderie, you must ride tomorrow.  Two nice rides are planned.

A special incentive for the afternoon ride is that it will end at the New City MicroCreamery and Bill will treat! (Maybe when Bill fell with his bike yesterday he hit his head?)

On  Wednesday, May 3 - Hudson
Starting Point: Horseshoe Pub Parking Lot:  29 South St Hudson, MA
(Don't park right near the Pub since we're not using it)
 Map

9:30  The Morning Recreation Ride will leave - this is the ride that takes us to the CIA! Jane will lead.
Route Map  Hudson - ARNWR   15.5 miles;  460 feet of elevation. Temp at start will be 55.5
11:30  We should be back

11:35  Lunch - The Rail Trail Flatbread Co.  33 Main Street, Hudson

12:30 Afternoon Fitness Ride will leave - Nice ride through Bolton and Berlin . Bill will lead.
Route Map - Hudson - Berlin      15.4 miles; 686 feet of elevation. Temp at the start will be 59.

2:30 PM  We should be back

See you all there tomorrow.

Bill (&Jane)

Today's rides

GO - Harvard Center - Roller Coaster.  Park at Elm St lot behind Town Hall. Depart at 9:30.

Temps:  50 at start, 55 at lunch, 60 at 2:30. Cloudy.
